Jamaica calls on Namibia to drop visa requirements for its nationals
A request has been made for Namibia to waive the visa requirement for Jamaicans.
The call was made by Jamaica’s outgoing Ambassador to Namibia, Norma Taylor Roberts during a courtesy call on Namibia’s President Hifikepunye Pohamba on Wednesday.
Roberts said Jamaica and most African states needed to re-establish cooperation they enjoyed before independence.
“In the past, the main priority was independence. There was a close relationship, but it has sort of slowed down after independence. So, I am happy that I was the first in my country to present credentials to Namibia, which began the groundwork for solid corroboration,” she told media after the meeting with Pohamba.
Roberts who went on to express displeasure at visa requirements for Jamaicans travelling to Namibia and asked that they be waived, also said she was satisfied with the present bilateral relation with Namibia, particularly in the area of sports.
“There are over six Namibians studying sport management in Jamaica. Our sport programs are designed that when they finish their athletic career, they have a profession to continue with,” she said. -(CMC)
