Haiti may hold elections in November 2025
Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council (TPC) leader, Leslie Voltaire, has announced that national elections are set for November 2025, with a new government expected to take office by February 7, 2026. The country has lacked elected representatives since January 2023, with its last elections held in 2016.
Security remains a critical concern, as armed gangs control much of the capital, Port-au-Prince. The United Nations reports that over a million Haitians have been internally displaced, while gang violence has disrupted ports and left more than five million people facing starvation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils Aimé held a high-level meeting with security officials, vowing that the state will not back down against criminal groups.
“It is imperative to restore trust, strengthen coordination among law enforcement, and neutralize those sowing terror,” said Fils Aimé. He condemned ongoing violence and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reclaiming gang-controlled areas.
A government statement confirmed plans to intensify security operations, increase personnel and equipment, and enhance coordination between the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H).
“We will strike hard and relentlessly. No criminal will be spared,” Fils Aimé declared, calling for national unity in the fight against crime. “We have a clear mandate: to end the reign of criminals. Order will be restored, and Haiti will find peace again.”
