The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has voiced significant concern regarding the transitional governance process currently underway in Haiti, a member state.

In an official statement, the regional organization acknowledged the dedicated contributions of former Prime Minister Garry Conille and expressed anticipation for an early engagement with newly appointed Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. CARICOM reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing dialogue with Haiti’s government leadership.

“With the passage of time, the urgency of achieving the primary objectives of the transition process, such as conducting free and fair elections and establishing a new, democratically elected government, has grown increasingly critical,” the statement highlighted.

CARICOM emphasized that ensuring cohesion, clarity of roles, and accountability among key stakeholders in the transitional process will be crucial to the success of Haiti’s governance transition in the months ahead.

In its remarks, CARICOM reiterated its longstanding position that effective solutions to Haiti’s challenges must be led and determined by the Haitian people themselves. “The Community remains steadfast in its belief that democracy can flourish only through compromise, respect for the rule of law, a demonstrated commitment to citizen security, and the promotion of their welfare, alongside the swift restoration of constitutional order and democratic institutions.”

Furthermore, CARICOM extended its ongoing support to the Haitian populace, expressing confidence that efforts will continue towards achieving the planned elections, set within the agreed framework by November 2025. “The Caribbean Community remains prepared to assist and stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti on their path to democratic renewal,” the statement concluded.
