Caribbean countries warned to prepare for major earthquake
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 rattled 3 Caribbean islands on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
The Trinidad & Tobago-based Seismic Research Center (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said that the earthquake, which occurred at 3.21 EDT occurred near Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, and Guadeloupe.
It said the earthquake was located at latitude: 16.05N, longitude: 61.15W at a depth of 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) and that it was felt 48 kilometers (30 miles) south east of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, 87 kilometers (54 miles) north northeast of Roseau, Dominica and 141 kilometers (88 miles) south east of St John’s, Antigua & Barbuda.
Caribbean countries have, in recent months, been rattled by earthquakes and SRC officials have warned regional countries to be prepared for a major quake. -(CMC)
