Barbados to establish Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT)
The Barbados government and The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have signed an agreement to establish a National Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT).
The CIRT is a mechanism that seeks to strengthen cybersecurity, detect the threat of cyber-attacks and manage a timely response. The project is expected to provide Barbados with skills and technical capabilities to build a national point of contact to respond in an effective manner to cybercrimes and cyber-attacks.
The establishment of the CIRT in Barbados is supported by Impact, the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats, which is the operational home of ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Agenda providing facilities and resources to ITU’s 193 Member States to effectively address cyber threats, as well as assisting United Nations agencies in protecting their ICT infrastructures.
The ITU-IMACT collaboration will support the establishment of the CIRT in Barbados, providing elements in project management as well as incident management software applications needed to combat cyber-attacks.
