16-year-old Quincy Wilson advances to men’s 400m final at Olympic trials
One of the standout athletes at this year’s Olympic Track and Field Trials is 16-year-old sprinter Quincy Wilson, who is competing impressively against runners nearly twice his age.
On Monday night, Wilson will have the opportunity to realize his dream of joining the U.S. team in the men’s 400 meters.
Wilson, already the world under-18 record holder in the event, shattered a 42-year-old record by running 44.66 seconds in the opening round. He continued to impress in Sunday’s semifinal heat, setting a new personal best of 44.59 seconds to finish third and secure his place in Monday night’s final.
“It’s spectacular. A 16-year-old coming out here, competing like a true competitor, not letting the moment get too big but living in the moment,” said Olympic gold medalist Michael Norman, who will be running against Wilson in the final.
