Tropical depression aims at the eastern Caribbean

Tropical depression fourteen close to tropical storm strength according to latest National Hurricane Centre report.

As Hurricane Katia continues on a nortwestward track between the United States and Bermuda attention focuses on the system developing in the eastern Atlantic.

According to the 6 a.m. EST advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the system is moving toward the west-northwest at 20mph (32km/h).

The centre of tropical depression fourteen is located near latitude 12.0 north longitude 39.9 west or 1455 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

According to the latest NHC advisory maximum sustained winds are near 35mph (56km/h) with higher gusts.

The 6 a.m. EST National Hurricane Center report indicates that a tropical depression may form later today.

An increase in forward speed and some additional stregthening is forecast during the nexy day or two the NHC report said.

Estmated minimal central pressure is 1006 MB.

Philip J. Klotzbach and William M. Gray of the Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University report that the 2011 hurricane season has been forecasted to have a well above average probability of United States and Caribbean major hurricane landfall.
