St Lucia to explore the development of geothermal energy sector

“There are one or two challenges; our Sulphur Springs is a very aggressive chemical environment. The acidity there is quite high and that’s one of the things we have to look at — what would be the best place to drill so that you get around some of the aggressive chemical issues that we have, without compromising the quality of the wells,” Fletcher said.

St Lucia has a long history of geothermal exploration going back to the 1970’s when the first initiative was undertaken. Although there were other initiatives since then, there has apparently been no conclusive report from government on the various initiatives.
