Spring 2015 Commencement Ceremony at Florida Memorial University slated for May 2
(BlackPRWire) – Miami Gardens – Florida – Florida Memorial University is pleased to announce that it will host its Spring 2015 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. at the Florida Memorial University Clock Tower Promenade.
The Ceremony, which will be held outdoors, will include a processional and recessional along the promenade accompanied by drummers. A segment of the promenade will be lined by International flags that represent some of the nations of student candidates.
Prior to the official Commencement, on May 30, 2015, there will be a Baccalaureate Service, at 11:00 a.m., in the Susie C. Holley Religious Center at Florida Memorial University. Senior Pastor Michael K. Bouie of Mount Hermon A.M.E. Church will deliver an inspiring message to the graduates, parents, University community and constituents assembled. Both commencement ceremonies are open to the public.
Pastor Bouie received his Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center (I.T.C.) – Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia and his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Morris Brown College in Atlanta.
“Florida Memorial University will recognize approximately 207 undergraduate and graduate students who have completed all academic requirements for graduation,” stated Dr. Callwood-Brathwaite, Associate Provost.
The speaker for the commencement ceremony is Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. Secretary Johnson was sworn in on December 23, 2013 as the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security. Prior to joining DHS, Secretary Johnson served as General Counsel for the Department of Defense, where he was part of the senior management team and led the more than 10,000 military and civilian lawyers across the Department. As General Counsel of the Defense Department, Secretary Johnson oversaw the development of the legal aspects of many of our nation’s counter-terrorism policies, spearheaded reforms to the military commissions system at Guantanamo Bay in 2009, and co-authored the 250-page report that paved the way for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2010.
Secretary Johnson’s career has included extensive service in national security, law enforcement, and as an attorney in private corporate law practice. Secretary Johnson was General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force from 1998 to 2001, and he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1989 to 1991.
During the Commencement Ceremony, anhonorary degree in humane letters will be presented to Fedrick Ingram, United Teachers of Dade President.
