The WTA womens’ number 1., Serena Williams is to face the men’s Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray in Las Vegas, Nevada, at some point in 2014, in a specially organized charity match, according to reports.
According to sources, the idea of the match was originally thrown about in a jokey exchange between the Williams and Murray on Twitter, however, it is likely to become a reality with the players’ representatives negotiating over the next month.
There might be some form of handicap to ensure a fair match. Williams may be allowed to hit into the tramlines to compensate for Murray’s power and to guarantee the Las Vegas crowd get their money’s worth.
The encounter follows on from Mo Farah’s decision to challenge Usain Bolt to a charity race. The long-distance runner, who captured two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games, is still trying to settle a date with the Jamaican sprinter.
