Air Peace has inaugurated direct commercial flights between Lagos and Barbados, the first scheduled service connecting West Africa and the Caribbean. The May 24 inaugural flight, operated by Boeing 777, carried 284 passengers including airline officials and Barbadian diplomats.

Operating twice monthly, the route seeks to eliminate costly stopovers and visa hurdles for travelers who previously transited via Europe or North America. Air Peace says the service will boost tourism, trade, and diaspora engagement between the regions.

Analysts see the launch as a strategic step in Nigeria’s ambition to become a continental aviation hub – though long-term viability will hinge on sustained demand and cross-border regulatory alignment.
