Nigeria goalkeeper apologizes

Friday, September 9, 2011

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama (pictured), has apologized to his nation the team after last week’s spat with coach Samson Siasia.

Enyeama, who moved to Lille during the summer transfer season, disagreed with the travel arrangements made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) thereby delaying the team’s departure from Abuja.

Coach Siasia then dropped Enyeama for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, stressing that his act of indiscipline was totally unacceptable.

“I apologize to coach Samson Siasia, my team-mates, the NFF and all the Nigerian fans of which I am one, who were all focused on the big game in Madagascar,” Enyeama said in a press release.

Nigeria won 2-0 in Madagascar to stay in contention in Group B of Nations Cup qualifying, trailing leaders Guinea by three points.

Siasia has worked at maintaining discipline among his star players after he suspended Peter Odemwingie for two games as a result of the player’s outburst on Twitter after quitting camp without permission.
