John H. Johnson Honored With Postal Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a stamp honoring the late John H. Johnson, founder of Ebony and Jet magazines.

Previous honorees include civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., baseball player Jackie Robinson and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

The visionary entrepreneur started Johnson Publishing Co. in 1942.

Johnson understood the power of the African American market, as he gained an understanding of the concept while working at a Black-owned life insurance company (Supreme Life Insurance Company) .

John H. Johnson died On August 8, 2005.
