Grammy-winning R&B legend James Ingram dead at age 66

AP | R&B star James Ingram has died at the age of 66.

Media reports suggest he had brain cancer.

Long time friend Debbie Allen confirmed Ingram’s death in a post on Twitter.

Ingram was a double Grammy winner and 2-time Oscar nominee.

Ingram shot to fame in the 1980s after his first number one pop hit ‘Baby, Come to Me‘ a 1983 duet with Patti Austin.

He again made it to the top the chart in 1990 with ‘I Don’t Have the Heart‘.

The artiste was also was well known for his soundtrack duet with Linda Ronstadt on ‘Somewhere Out There‘ for the 1986 animated film ‘An American Tail‘.

Ingram was nominated for 14 Grammy awards from 1982 through 1996, winning for male vocal R&B performance for ‘One Hundred Ways’ and for R&B performance by a duo or group for his collaboration with Michael McDonald, ‘Yah Mo B There.

Before going solo, Ingram was a member of the 1970s group Revelation Funk.

In recent years, he had not been prolific.

His last album, Stand (in the Light), was released in 2008. He had previously released an album in 1993.
