Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon cemented her dominance in middle-distance running on Tuesday, capturing her fourth 1500m world title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The 31-year-old star, already a three-time Olympic champion, clocked 3:52.15 – nearly three seconds ahead of compatriot Dorcus Ewoi (3:54.92, PB). Australia’s Jess Hull took bronze in 3:55.16, edging out Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir, who set a personal best of 3:55.25.

Kipyegon, who broke her own world record earlier this season with 3:48.68 in Eugene, now holds three of the four fastest winning times in World Championship history. She joins Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as only the second woman to claim four world titles in a single track event.

“After setting the world record, I told myself I had to defend my title here,” Kipyegon said. “Winning again in Tokyo, where I also won Olympic gold in 2021, means so much – I can show another medal to my daughter.”

Since her World Championship debut in 2013, Kipyegon has never finished worse than second, with her silver in Doha fueling her post-maternity comeback. Trained by Patrick Sang in Kenya’s Rift Valley alongside marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, she has become the undisputed queen of the 1500m.

Though she narrowly missed her goal of breaking the four-minute mile barrier this season, Kipyegon remains unmatched. She now turns her focus to the 5000m, where another gold could further solidify her place among the sport’s greatest.
