Dubai based firm to invest $500 million in Tanzania smelter plant
Tanzania is about to have its own first ever copper smelter following an agreement between Kigoma Regional administration and a Dubai-based firm, City Energy & Infrastructure LLC.
City Energy & Infrastructure LLC, will construct the plant, whose capacity will total 300,000 tonnes of blister copper per year. The construction will be completed in about 24 to 36 months.
The Dubai company will also invest in a power plant in Rukwa region of country in addition to also setting up a a sugar factory with 20,000 tons of cane-crushing capacity per day.
A company official revealed that, as part of its corporate governance and social responsibility towards the indigenous people of Kigoma and Tanzania at large, City Energy & Infrastructure LLC, was committed to devise programmes that would provide training, by setting industrial training institutions, knowledge transfer by conducting seminars all over the region, assistance to small farmers by providing seeds, fertilisers, training as well as rental equipment.
He also said the company has plans to support small-scale copper miners, primary mining leaseholders, avail technology and guaranteed purchase of ore.
