Dikembe Mutombo, Kevin Johnson named as candidates to Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2015

The prestigious Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2015 has named 12 more deserving candidates to join the list of elite players, coaches and contributors of the ball sport on Saturday.

The list includes four-time Defensive Player of the Year Dikembe Mutombo and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. The class will be announced at an April 6 press conference before the NCAA championship game.

Johnson was a three-time All-Star point guard with the Phoenix Suns who led the charge to keep his hometown team in Sacramento after moving into politics.

Mutombo, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, in addition to excelling in the sport, has done more off the court due to his involvement in humanitarian work – including the building of a hospital in Kinshasa – the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital.

Mutombo currently serves as a Global Ambassador for UNICEF
