Charlette N’Guessan: Tackling Africa’s AI data challenges
Charlette N’Guessan serves as the Data Solutions and Ecosystem Lead at Amini, a deep tech startup that utilizes space technology and artificial intelligence to address the issue of environmental data scarcity in Africa and the global South.
As a co-founder of Bace API, she spearheaded the development of a secure identity verification system that uses AI-powered facial recognition technology to combat online identity fraud and mitigate facial recognition biases specific to the African context.
Additionally, she is an AI expert consultant for the African Union High Level Panel on Emerging Technologies, contributing to the AU-AI continental strategy titled “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Africa’s Socio-Economic Development,” which aims to shape the AI governance landscape in Africa.
N’Guessan is also a published co-author and the first woman to receive the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
