Cameroon, China in joint venture to assemble environment-friendly vehicles
Another assembly plant for buses and tractors in Bamenda, the capital of the Northwest region, has suffered the same fate.
However, Northwest regional governor Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, just recently back from an official visit to China, promised that the Bamenda plant would soon be operational.
According to industry, mines and technological development minister Emmanuel Bonde, who signed on behalf of Cameroon, the Kribi project will create 8,000 direct jobs and indirectly employ thousands more.
“The first phase of the project will consist of assembling the car parts imported from China while the second will entail mounting the vehicles with locally mined iron ore when the Mbalam Iron Ore Mine is able to supply the required quantity of raw material,” Mr Bonde said.
