Prime Minister Bruce Golding yesterday announced that the country’s new attorney general, Ransford Braham, will take up office on August 8.
Braham, who has long been touted to fill the role left vacant after Dorothy Lightbourne was dropped from the Cabinet and the portfolio of minister of justice and attorney general split, is an experienced attorney with a long list of achievements.
He will become the chief legal adviser to the Government and will work closely with new justice minister, Delroy Chuck.
Braham was admitted to practise in Jamaica in 1988 after graduating from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Laws degree with honours and is currently a member of the General Legal Council and the Jamaican Bar Association.
He was most recently an advocate in the legal firm Livingston, Alexander and Levy’s litigation department, responsible for conducting litigation in all courts, including the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council.
Braham is also an experienced arbitration advocate specialising in commercial arbitration, involving construction contracts, insurance policies and engineering specifications.
