Barbados: Online tax payment service launched
Barbados has launched the ‘eZpay service’ for the electronic payment of tax. Initially, the eZpay service will be limited to the collection of land taxes and will only be available to domestic bank account holders.
Development of the service is ongoing, and it is envisaged that eventually all payments to government agencies, including fees related to occasionally-issued permits and licences, quarterly or annual tax payments, various other one-time fees and fines, will be able to be settled via the system, including by foreign bank account holders.
Barbados Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Chris Sinckler revealed that the system would simplify tax compliance by eliminating the need for taxpayers to attend on-island tax collection agencies in person.
Sinckler said: “eZpay will provide all participating government agencies with the ability to collect electronically taxes, duties, fees, or monies paid, and is a convenient way for individuals and businesses to pay the various government agencies using web technology from virtually anywhere.”
Sinckler noted that the modernization of Barbados tax collection methods would cut costs both for taxpayers and the government and benefit the environment.
