Bahamas: Telecommunications sector to be liberalized today – PM Christie

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Earlier this year, the prime minister had described as “historic” the agreement under which the majority economic interest in the BTC has been returned to the state.

Christie said the agreement with Cable & Wireless would not cost the country “one single cent.

“In particular, there will be no extension of the BTC’s monopoly and no postponement of the liberalization of the telecommunications sector,” Christie said, reiterating “we have not paid, and will not have to pay, for the re-acquired shares in any form or fashion. “So, in financial terms, this is a win-win for the government and people of the Bahamas.” -(CMC)
