Vodacom of South Africa looking to invest in Sierra Leone

Vodacom Group of South Africa has expressed interest in investing in telecommunications in Sierra Leone.

This was revealed by Mohamed Bangura, Sierra Leone’s director-general of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM).

A delegation from Vodacom has visited the capital, Freetown, and met officials from the commission and the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The delegation held fruitful business discussions with representatives of the government of Sierra Leone, the telecommunications regulatory body, NATCOM and top private sector executives of bank institutions, mining companies and auditing firms.

Briefing the delegation, Commissioner Manja of Natcom said Sierra Leone is open to credible investors in the telecommunications industry, as it is aimed at promoting the socio-economic development of the country through attraction of foreign direct investment.

He said the Sierra Leone has the most flexible telecommunications regulations in the sub-region that facilitates service delivery and assured of his commission’s commitment and determination at ensuring Vodacom’s successful business operations in the country.
