Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan recently marked a significant milestone by inaugurating a truck and tipper assembly plant in Dar es Salaam. This development is poised to significantly reduce importation costs and foster the creation of numerous job opportunities.

Nestled in the vibrant Kigamboni area of the city, the Saturn Corporation facility boasts the capacity to assemble up to 30 tippers and 9 trucks on a daily basis. Moreover, its production capacity is flexible, allowing for swift adjustments to meet the demands of customers. Since its operational launch in March, the factory has already assembled over 150 trucks and contributed to the creation of approximately 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

President Hassan highlighted the plant as a testament to Tanzania’s rapidly improving business landscape, attracting investments not only in the automotive sector but also across various industries. She emphasized the pivotal role such developments play in driving economic growth, expanding job prospects, and bolstering government revenue.

In a proactive move to ensure a steady supply of essential raw materials, such as steel, the President issued directives to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the President’s Office to streamline regulations and minimize bureaucratic hurdles hindering local sourcing. She urged swift action in securing investors for key projects like the Liganga iron ore and Mchuchuma coal ventures, emphasizing their crucial role in supplying raw materials to support manufacturing operations.

President Hassan also encouraged Tanzanians to seize the opportunities emerging from the establishment of manufacturing facilities by large foreign firms in the country. She underscored the significance of reducing reliance on imports for economic progress, emphasizing the potential for Tanzanians to capitalize on such opportunities.

The President expressed satisfaction that the assembly plant’s establishment would lead to the cessation of Howo truck imports from China, further underscoring the nation’s strides towards self-sufficiency and industrial development.
