Obama administration to join voting rights cases in Ohio, Wisconsin

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Husted restored in-person voting on the Sunday before Election Day to the statewide early-voting schedule after District Court Judge Peter C. Economus ruled the first schedule unconstitutional. Economus will also decide the NAACP lawsuit, and a hearing has been scheduled for August 11.

Republicans have said Ohioans have plenty of opportunities to vote without golden week – 28 days of early voting including the option to cast a ballot by mail from home or anywhere else in the world. Husted plans to mail every registered Ohio voter an absentee ballot application for the November 2014 election.

“While Ohio Republicans have been longtime and consistent champions of accessible and fair elections, Democrats have been quick to look for partisan advantages at the expense of Ohio voters,” spokesman Chris Schrimpf said in an email. “Republican leadership has made Ohio one of the easiest and most fair states to vote in.”
