Grenada working to develop medical tourism sector

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Mitchell administration in Grenada has revealed that it is collaborating with the St George’s University – the country’s largest – and other investors to build a substance abuse rehabilitation center that will become the flagship for the island-nation’s medical tourism nascent industry.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Mitchell administration has “noted the importance such facilities will have on the lives of many Grenadian citizens abroad who will like to return in their twilight years but who do not yet have the confidence in the local health care system to do so.

Other clientele will include other international citizens who will like to take advantage of the safety and comfort of our shores while recovering from various ailments. A comprehensive health services facility can go a long way in propelling the economy as well.”

The Chancellor of St. George’s University, Charles Modica said that the establishment of a medical tourism facility would further solidify the joint partnership between the University and the Grenada government, as well as provide a rich legacy of working to ensure that health care is comprehensive, affordable and improved for all.

The statement said that a team, which also includes Foreign Affairs and International Business Minister, Nickolas Steele, will continue to work out the details for the center. -(CMC)
