French Open 2016: Serena Williams proceeds to second round

Serena Williams needed just 42 minutes to dispatch Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2, 6-0 as the American aims for another title that would see her equal Steffi Graf’s Open era record of 22 Grand Slam wins.

The top-ranked Williams barely broke a sweat in Tuesday’s last match on the Philippe Chatrier Court. She won the last 10 games, after going 2-2 in the first set.

“Today was great for me. I hope I continue to play like today, it’s only the first round. I hope I win 6 more matches,” said Williams, showcasing her French to an appreciative crowd.

Williams will face Brazilian Teliana Pereira in the second round.
