Dangote Cement has inaugurated a new US$160 million cement plant in Attingué, 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Abidjan, marking its entry into Ivory Coast – the 11th African country to host the Nigerian industrial giant’s operations.

The 50-hectare facility boasts an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes, ranking among Dangote’s largest plants outside Nigeria. With the group’s total African capacity now at 55 million tonnes per year, the plant aims to meet surging demand fueled by Ivory Coast’s rapid urbanization and major infrastructure projects.

Serge Gbotta, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, said at the launch event in Abidjan that the plant “embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of a self-sufficient Africa” and will deliver “internationally standard cement, produced locally at competitive prices.”

The project is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, offering opportunities for Ivorian youth and strengthening the local supply chain – including transporters, builders, retailers, and subcontractors.

The Attingué plant underscores Dangote’s commitment to sustainable industrial development and signals growing investor confidence in West Africa’s construction boom.
