Cory Booker set to win Wednesday vote – to become New Senator from New Jersey

It is now becoming apparent that popular Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be the next senator next senator from New Jersey.

According to latest reports, Booker has outraised his Republican opponent Steve Lonegan by a factor of 8-to-1, totaling US$11.2 million compared to Lonegan’s US$1.35 million.

The fundraising total for Booker puts him on par with other top New Jersey politicians, including Senator Bob Menendez (Democrat) and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (Republican) making him the the clear favorite to win Wednesday’s vote.

Booker has consistently held a double-digit lead in the polls over Lonegan, though the lead has shrunk to around 10 points.

In other news, Waywire, the video-sharing website co-founded by Booker, is being sold to web company Magnify. Booker will not profit from the deal because he previously donated his shares in the company to charity.
