Carla Barnett reappointed CARICOM secretary-general

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government have reappointed Carla Barnett as Secretary-General, following their Fiftieth Regular Meeting in St. Kitts & Nevis from February 24–27, 2026.

CARICOM Chair Terrance Drew confirmed that Barnett secured the required majority for reappointment. She will begin her second five-year term in August 2026, continuing to lead the regional organization from its headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

Barnett made history in 2021 as CARICOM’s first female Secretary-General, succeeding Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.
