In December, the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) announced the appointment of Barbadian Daniel Best as the institution’s seventh president.

This appointment underscores the bank’s commitment to visionary leadership and its dedication to advancing sustainable development across the Caribbean region.

“Daniel Best brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Caribbean. With more than 20 years of experience in development finance, policy planning, and infrastructure investment, he is exceptionally positioned to lead the CDB into a new era of transformative regional impact,” the bank stated.

As president, Best will guide the bank’s strategic direction, with a focus on its core mission of reducing poverty and inequality while fostering inclusive and sustainable growth throughout the region. His leadership will build on the bank’s strong legacy and address the evolving challenges and opportunities presented by the global landscape.

His nearly 30-year career spans infrastructure development, development finance, project management, and strategic leadership. He has worked across both the public and private sectors in the Caribbean, making significant contributions to advancing sustainable development initiatives in the region.

Having been with the regional institution for over 15 years, Best has held several senior roles, including Director of the Projects Department. In this capacity, he managed the bank’s investment lending and grant portfolios, while cultivating strategic partnerships with both global and regional institutions.

Prior to his appointment as president of CDB, Best served as Senior Infrastructure and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister of Barbados, a position he held while seconded from the CDB.
