Jamaica and Ghana have signed a four-year memorandum of understanding to enable the ethical, temporary deployment of doctors and nurses, addressing critical staffing gaps in Jamaica’s health system.

The agreement, aligned with Jamaica’s Vision for Health 2030, follows the March termination of its 50-year medical partnership with Cuba and aims to mitigate the outflow of Jamaican health professionals to higher-income countries. Beyond workforce exchanges, the pact fosters bilateral cooperation on primary-care reform, national health insurance, and non-communicable disease management.

Health Minister Christopher Tufton described the deal as a strategic step toward strengthening public health infrastructure and deepening ties between the two nations.
