US Open 2017: Venus Williams advances to 3rd round

Ninth seeded Venus Williams has advanced to the 3rd round of the US Open after beating Océane Dodin 7-5 6-4 on Wednesday.

Williams – this year’s Australian Open and Wimbledon runner-up is the field’s oldest woman at 37. She is among 7 women who could become world number 1 after the US Open.

She will face Maria Sakkari next in her bid for a 3rd title at the US Open – and first since 2001.
