Tax Administration Jamaica introduces mandatory e-Filing
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has announced that the mandatory e-filing of certain tax returns came into effect on March 1, 2014.
The new e-filing requirement comes as the Jamaican tax agancy plans to phase in a mandatory requirement for all returns. Large taxpayers with a turnover of more than J$ 500 million (US$ 4.6 million) are now expected to e-file all returns for which that capability exists. In addition, employers with more than 20 employees now need to e-file their monthly statutory payroll deductions, as well as the employers’ annual return, which becomes due on March 31. Persons filing a general consumption tax refund return are now also required to e-file their returns.
TAJ has reminded that hard copy versions of returns subject to the new requirement will no longer be accepted. Persons facing the new requirement have been encouraged register to file online through the Jamaica Tax Portal on the TAJ website.
