PNP mum on tax hike
DESPITE PROTESTING the doubling of the tourism enhancement-fee head tax, the parliamentary Opposition this week refused to vote against the measure in the House of Representatives.
Despite protesting the doubling of the tourism enhancement-fee head tax, the parliamentary Opposition (the People’ National Party – PNP) this week refused to vote against the measure in the House of Representatives.
When the matter came before the legislature, Wykeham McNeill (pictured), spokesman on tourism, said the proposal to increase the head tax from US$10 per passenger to US$20 could be harmful to the industry.
However, when the time came for the vote, there was no call for a divide on the issue.
A divide is a call that may be made by any member of parliament requiring the clerk to record the individual vote of each member.
The bill was passed by acclamation.
