Drogba named as reconciliator in the Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast‘s (Cote D’Ivoire) new authorities on Monday named Chelsea striker Didier Drogba (pictured), as a member of a special 11 member commission tasked with the responsibility of reconciling a nation broken by a five month post-election conflict that claimed more than 3,000 lives.

He will soon be holding public meetings across Europe and beyond preaching peace and reconciliation for thousands of Ivorians divided by power and politics.

The 33 year-old Drogba, will be in charge of reuniting thousands of Ivorians based in the diaspora, notably in France, Germany, Italy and the United States.

This is the first time a soccer player is being handed such a high responsibility in the Ivory Coast. However, Drogba and a couple of other Ivorian professionals have been vocal in calling for peace in recent years.
