Charles King launches MACRO – A New Media Company Targeting Multicultural Market
Current advisory board members include leading entertainment executives and corporate advisors Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix and Raymond McGuire, Global Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, Citibank. King is in negotiations with several key executives who will be joining the company.
MACRO is in the final stages of closing an undisclosed eight figure financing round and is in talks with several film studios for distribution. Josh Grode of Irell & Manella is structuring the financing for MACRO. Kenneth Deutsch of Latham & Watkins and Sean Monroe of O’Melveny & Myers are serving as co-counsel representing MACRO and King in the transaction.
MACRO has begun sourcing opportunities, with projects already in development with filmmakers Ryan Coogler and Craig Brewer. WME will continue representing King’s current roster of clients.

About Charles King: Charles King is founder and CEO of MACRO. Formerly, King was Partner/Agent in the Motion Picture Department at William Morris Endeavor (WME). King joined the William Morris Agency mailroom in 1997 and was promoted two years later to Agent, becoming the first African American to rise from the training program in the Beverly Hills office Film/Television department in the company’s 101-year history. King was promoted to Vice President in 2004, Senior Vice President in 2006 and became a partner in 2010 after the William Morris merger with Endeavor.
He was one of the first people in Hollywood to recognize the immense talent of Tyler Perry and has represented the multi-hyphenate for over ten years. His current and former clients span every sector of the entertainment industry. He works with acclaimed and emerging filmmakers, including Craig Brewer, Barry Sonnenfeld, M Night Shyamalan, Ryan Coogler and Justin Simien.
King is a member of the team for media mogul Oprah Winfrey and represents mega-pastors and author/producers Joel Osteen and Bishop T.D. Jakes. He also represents actor/musician Andre Benjamin and rising music force Janelle Monae. King has been profiled and recognized by many media outlets including NPR, Essence Magazine, The Weekly Variety and The Los Angeles Times. King was highlighted in Fortune Magazine’s 2005 Diversity Issue as one of the nation’s most influential Latino, Asian or African Americans. He was featured in the 9th annual Next Generation Issue of The Hollywood Reporter as one of the top entertainment executives under 35.
In 2009 Howard University bestowed upon him their Distinguished Alumni Award and he was recently named to the 2014 Ebony Power 100 list. King sits on several non-profit boards and is a visible champion for causes he believes in, both within and outside the entertainment industry. He has been a major Democratic fundraiser and works to connect dots between key initiatives in Washington, D.C. and Hollywood. King is also an active angel investor in synergistic ventures at the nexus between the technology sector and the media content business. King is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in Political Science and a J.D. from Howard University School of Law. He resides in Los Angeles, CA with his wife, Stacey a fashion designer and their two young sons.
