World Cup Qualifier Updates: Cameroon beat Togo; Nigeria ties with Kenya; Ivory Coast beat Gambia
Samuel Eto’o scored twice to lead Cameroon over Togo 2-1 Saturday and improve its chances of qualifying for next year’s World Cup.
This was the second victory for Cameroon who move up to six points, while Togo remain at the bottom of Group I with a solitary point.
Ivory Coast didn’t miss Didier Drogba in a 3-0 win over Gambia, and African champion Nigeria needed a goal by Nnamdi Oduamadi in the second minute of second-half injury time for a 1-1 tie against visiting Kenya. The last World Cup host, South Africa, still has a chance of making it to Brazil next year following a 2-0 win over the Central Africa Republic.
Tunisia improved to 3-0 with a 2-1 win at home against Sierra Leone.
In Group J, Angola came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw away to Senegal in a top-of-the-table clash. The draw sees Senegal remain top of Group J with five points, while Angola 3 points are second.
In other World Cup qualifying results, Malawi beat Namibia 1-0, while Burkino Faso ran riot over Niger with 4-0 victory.
