US Open 2013: Tournament commences today – Serena Williams a clear favorite

Williams has played more matches on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour this season than in recent injury-hit years but, despite that, the 31-year-old says she has no concerns over her fitness and is grateful to still be playing at the top level.

“It is interesting, I feel great, I feel completely recharged and I feel fine,” she said.

“To play more matches now, later in my career than sooner is interesting for me.”

“I don’t need to prove anything and that is the beauty of my career. I don’t need to do anything at all and everything I do from this day forward is a bonus.”
