Haile Gebrselassie to compete in Berlin marathon

Double Olympic Champion, Marathon World Record holder, Haile Gebrselassie (pictured), will take on the Berlin Marathon this weekend.

He will target a fast time rather than victory in order to ensure a place in the Ethiopian team for next year’s London Olympics. He said that one of his few remaining ambitions at the age of 38 is to add an Olympic marathon medal to his two golds at 10,000m.

Gebrselassie will find himself up against, Kenyan runners, Patrick Makau and Felix Limo, among others. Makau has spoken openly in the past few weeks about attempting to take Gebrselassie’s record “back to Kenya”.

Patrick Makau won last years’ Berlin marathon in 2:05:08. Gebreselassie was not present.
