(Trinidad Express) Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was yesterday admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Acting Prime Minister Jack Warner called an urgent media conference at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Clair yesterday to make a statement on Persad-Bissessar’s condition.
“Just prior to her admission, I spoke with Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar who assured me that she will rally through,” Warner said.
“At this point in time, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar is undergoing a battery of tests. I am advised the Prime Minister’s family and her close friends are apprised of the situation and I’ve promised to keep them updated as further reports come in,” he said.
Warner expressed his gratitude to Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart for his attention and promised to make updates on Persad-Bissessar’s condition as the situation evolves.
She fell ill late yesterday at the Hilton Barbados during the Caricom-Mexico Summit.
Top specialists at the hospital in Barbados treated her, the Barbados Nation reported.
Tests were conducted and came back inconclusive, the hospital’s communications specialist Carolyn Williams-Gayle told reporters.
Persad-Bissessar later discharged herself and is expected to return to Trinidad today.
