St. Kitts & Nevis: Parliament to be dissolved, Douglas to announce elections soon
St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas has announced that he has requested the Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence to dissolve the twin-island nation’s parliament.
The dissolution of the country’s parliament signals that general elections are on the horizon.
According to a statement from the prime minister, the date of the general elections in St. Kitts & Nevis will be announced shortly.
Douglas has served as the country’s Prime Minister since 1995. He is currently serving his fourth term, the longest-serving head of government in the region. His party – the St. Kitts & Nevis Labour party’s most recent victory was in 2010.
The move comes at a time when the country’s opposition party has been clamoring for a debate into a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Douglas and his administration
