Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has revealed that her administration intends serving out its full five-year term in office despite increasing calls for her to either dismiss two senior Cabinet ministers or call fresh general elections as the fall out continues over the early implementation of the controversial Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act.

“Let not your heart be troubled. You gave us a mandate of five years and we of the government will make sure to honor that mandate for the full five years. We are not afraid, will not be deterred, we will not be intimidated,” Prime Minister Persad Bissessar said at the 15th annual Divali celebration hosted by a group in her Siparia Constituency over the weekend.

“We will do what is right, when it is right. And when issues come before us, we will put God in front and we will walk behind. We will always be guided by that divine light. We can only do it with your love and support that love that you have shown for the last two and a half years and even before. And as we go into the next two and a half years, I give you this assurance,” she added.

Her statement came after thousands of people took to the streets on Friday demanding the resignations of Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and National Security Minister Austin “Jack” Warner over the early proclamation of legislation that critics say was intended to ensure the freedom of two financiers of the coalition People’s Partnership government. -(CMC)
