Obama guaranteed of Latino support

A majority of Latinos say they disapprove of how the Obama administration is handling deportations of illegal immigrants but still would back him for reelection over any of the Republican hopefuls, according to a new poll out Wednesday.

By more than two-to-one, or 59 percent to 27 percent, Latinos told the Pew Research Center they do not approve of President Barack Obama’s deportation policy. Under Obama, deportations have hit record highs, with an annual average of almost 400,000 since 2009.

Despite the rampant disapproval of the deportation policy, Latinos say they will overwhelmingly support Obama and Democrats in 2012 — in a matchup against Mitt Romney, Obama is favored by 68 percent of Latino voters, and against Rick Perry, the president grabs 69 percent of the Latino vote.
