Herman Cain back on track: wins South Dakota Republican straw poll

Herman Cain (pictured), won a straw poll held during the South Dakota Republican Party’s State Dinner Saturday night.

Voters were asked their preference between Cain, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

Cain, who has emerged from obscurity this year to become the GOP frontrunner in recent weeks, received 35 percent of the vote.

Cain has been dealing with reports of claims of sexual harassment during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association but that has not greatly hampered his standing in polls and it didn’t prevent him from winning the non-binding straw poll.
