Elections in St. Vincent & the Grenadines on Dec. 9 – Gonsalves
Citizens of St. Vincent & the Grenadines will elect a new government in a month.
The country’s incumbent prime minister Ralph Gonsalves announced a December 9 date for general elections at a rally of his United Labor Party (ULP) on Saturday night.
Gonsalves will be seeking a historic fourth consecutive term in office. His ruling ULP won 8 of the 15 seats in the last general elections. The other seven were won by the Arnhim Eustace-led New Democratic Party (NDP).
The latest opinion polls suggest that this election will be close – with neither party taking a clear lead.
Gonsalves and his ULP will be campaigning on a platform of achievement and promises of further accomplishments. During the rally, Gonsalves outlined 20 of his administration’s policies and programs and outlined 15 areas on which the administration would focus on if the ULP is returned to office. -(CMC)
