Association of Caribbean States summit to be held in Haiti, April 23-26

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Haiti, which earlier this year hosted the “historic” summit of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders, is getting ready to host another major summit this month, informed sources have said.

The Association of Caribbean States (ACS) summit is scheduled for April 23-26 and according to the sources, the four day event will allow for discussions on strengthening regional cooperation so as to deal with the socio-economic problems facing the Greater Caribbean.

The summit will be held under the theme “Revitalizing the vision of the Association of Caribbean States for a stronger and more united Greater Caribbean”.

Haiti is recovering from a powerful earthquake in 2010 that killed an estimated 300,000 people and left more than a million others homeless. The ACS was launched in 1994. Previous summits were held in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela. -(CMC)
