Antigua & Barbuda: Retiring Louise Lake-Tack to be replaced by Rodney Williams as Governor-General

Monday, August 11, 2014

Former education minister, Rodney Williams, is to be sworn in as Antigua & Barbuda’s new Governor-General, acting Prime Minister Steadroy Benjamin has said.

Williams will replace Dame Louise Lake-Tack (pictured), who has been in office for the past 7 years.

Benjamin, who is also the Attorney General, said that Williams will be sworn in on Wednesday at parliament building.

The incoming Governor-General is the son of the late Ernest Emmanuel Williams, the former Antigua Labor Party (ALP) parliamentary representative for the St Paul riding and one of the longest serving members of parliament in the history of the twin island-nation.

Williams entered politics after his father’s death in 1994 and represented St Paul up to 2004. A specialist in sports medicine, he also served as the country’s minister of education.

Outgoing Governor-General Lake-Tack, was appointed in 2007 under the United Progressive Party administration. -(CMC)
