Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Saturday urged her Jamaican counterpart Portia Simpson-Miller to adopt the Caribbean Court of Justice as that country’s final Court of Appeal.
Simpson-Miller had indicated her administrations’ commitment to signing on to the Caribbean Court of Justice in its appellate jurisdiction, shortly after her assuming power.

Jamaica is one of several Caribbean islands that has not yet accepted the Caribbean Court of Justice as its final Court of Appeal.
The lower house of parliament in Jamaica is set to debate whether the Caribbean Court of Justice should be that country’s final Court of Appeal.
Simpson-Miller, whose country this year also celebrated 50 years of Independence on August 6, had travelled to Trinidad & Tobago to participate in the Jubilee independence celebrations.
Portia Simpson-Miller, and Kamla Persad-Bissessar, are the only female prime ministers of the largest economies in the Caribbean region.
