St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas has reiterated that a motion of no confidence filed against his administration cannot be debated until the court rules on several matters filed by the Speaker of parliament of the twin-island nation.

Responding to a statement made by the St. Kitts & Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce on the outstanding matter at the opening session of the National Consultation on the Economy, Douglas said his administration is very confident there is no political instability that would negatively impact the economy and in turn investment opportunities in the country.

According to Douglas, his administration is “certain that there is no damage to the image of St. Kitts & Nevis, and that the several leadership roles the country has been called upon to pursue in the region is proof of that fact.”

“I therefore wish to remind us that under the Constitution and Standing Orders, there is no stipulated timetable within which the motion of no confidence should be debated in our National Assembly”, he further added.

The issue of the motion of no confidence in the present government is currently before the country’s courts – two former government ministers, including former deputy prime minister Sam Condor, have joined with the four opposition legislators in going to the courts in a bid to force the government to have the motion of no confidence. The motion of no confidence in the Douglas administration cannot be debated until the matter is resolved in the courts. -(CMC)
